How does sc2 promotions work

If you want advance to diamond 3 and the bar does show platinum 3 then you need to fill the bar 3 times. So plat 1 was your highest league this season and if you lose mmr it will show on your progress bar but not in your actual league. I see but it still makes no sense, I was promoted to platinum 3, went to 2, then to 1, and after I maxed out the bar, it said I was in platinum 2….

Ok, so it says you are in platinum 1. However, if your MMR drops into plat 2 range, it will show the MMR range for plat 2 in that bar until you move back up into the plat 1 range.
