Posted 12 October - PM Thanks. Looks like it deleted all the files and combofix. The folder is still there though. Can I go ahead and just delete that as well? I wasn't aware that combofix was something I probably shouldn't have been using without supervision. Also, thoughts on Vipre Anti-Virus software?
IT guy at my work gave it to me. We use this at on our system and the thinks it's the tits. Vipre is an excelent company with excellent tools. Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. My computer got infected yesterday by the Qoobox. You can identify if you have this virus when a blue box opens with "Windows", question marks, and a number scale of command buttons.
When I booted into safe mode the virus had disabled all of my startup items except itself. These steps worked well to get rid of the virus as quickly as possible: 1. Removed the Hard Drive from my computer and slaved it to another computer. Deleted the Qoobox folder from the main directory. These steps allowed me to get back into windows. I believe if you can get to a command prompt in safe mode you can delete the folder as well. Although you still need to run a system restore to restore all of the start up items.
I had no idea what this meant until now. I really don't care what people who don't know what they are doing think about me and what I can do. I care about peoples systems, and because of what I can do, I also can spot when people don't know what they are doing.
Just don't being told so. That is all. I have emails from other MR's who can see why the forum is dangerous for a well infected system, no safe guards, and overseer watching for bad instructions to be removed quickly, MR's like myself talk about malware changes and spot incorrect instructions.
