Given your current pace it could take you another hours to finish. If you ever get lost, feel free to ask and I can give spoiler-free hints on where you should look next.

I did get a bit lost when I had to go fight the Dark Elf King. I'll be taking you up on that offer I think! I'm enjoying the gameplay, but really not feeling the lack of real story. What's FFII like? What part of the story seems lacking to you in FFI? I suppose your characters are blank slates, but they're meant to be anything you want them to be, they're your heroes. The rest of the story is told mainly through dialogue with NPCs in towns. If you talk to everyone you start piecing the full situation together.

Elements are corrupted, heroes appear to save the day, you rescued a princess, freed a town from pirates, awoke a sleeping prince, and are probably currently investigating the rotting earth near Melmond now.

The quirky thing about FFII is the leveling system. Some people like it and some people hate it. Basically you don't gain experience, but you gain stats by using them.

If you attack with your sword you get better at swords. If you cast Fire a lot you get better with Fire. If you get hit alot, you gain HP. If you attack a lot you gain strength. I like the sound of that levelling system, will need to see how well implemented it was though! I've a feeling I've played a game with something similar before. Sounds fun though. I just think it's the fact that NPCs that you'd feel as being somewhat major, Kings and the like, seem to impart very little information, and I'm just used to them being the major plot reveals with the smaller NPCs supplementing a lot less than they do here.

The blank slate of the main characters doesn't bother me, I like it actually, means I can project what I want them to be onto them, like a basic Fallout or Skyrim. I guess overall, the game is just very basic. I can't criticise that overly though because of its age. Most remasters and re-releases of Final Fantasy games have the same content, and thus the same playtime as the originals. However, some remakes are entirely different beasts of their own. Final Fantasy 3 for the Nintendo DS had its own unique cast of characters, and its story is just a bit longer.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is an entirely new game , even if it goes through the same story beats. Since Final Fantasy 7 Remake will receive new parts in the future, its playtime will soon grow. Sequels are add-ons to the main series, albeit some fans disregard them. Spin-offs and side games make up the bulk of the franchise. Some spin-offs like the Chocobo games make up their own subseries, but only a handful of Chocobo games ever got released outside of Japan.

These games often branch out from the typical JRPG style, including fighting games or even rhythm games.
